Is Missouri trying to hook up with Miami-FL?
Or will Mizzo go without playing a P5 non-conference opponent, as Vandy and the two Missi schools are.
That weak scheduling which won’t go unnoticed by the playoff committee.
There have been suggestions from the BYU HC that Missouri might be an opponent next year and November 14 is workable.
BYU doesn’t have November 14th as a open date so I don’t know who Missouri will play then??
UNLV is a friend of BYU. There are a few schools, who get a BYU H&H as a result, that tentatively schedule BYU as late as they possibly can with agreement it can be pulled forward before their conference (MWC) schedule is done. MTSU was a similar flex game for BYU in 2014. SJSU and NIU are similar games in the near future. ECU (2015 & 2017) had already changed dates several times.
BYU has 12 games scheduled in 2015. But if they cancel the10/24 game versus Idaho St (FCS), they could play Missouri in 10/31. I would suspect BYU would want the game in Provo so they can have a balanced home and road schedule. (Idaho St also plays Boise St in 2015 so losing BYU on their schedule wouldn’t be huge loss for the Bengals…as long as they get their cancel fee).
From St Louis Today:
http://www.stltoday.com/sports/college/mizzou/eye-on-the-tigers/mizzou-s-sec-schedule-includes-thursday-home-game/article_0c01add9-61a9-5cec-8183-0da8c80af5df.html
“Last week, Brigham Young coach Bronco Mendenhall mentioned on his radio show the possibility of playing at Mizzou in 2015 as part of a three-game series. The other games would be in Provo, Utah, on BYU’s home field, and a neutral-site game at Kansas City’s Arrowhead Stadium. Mendenhall later backed off his statement some and said he was just talking hypothetically, but Maggard confirmed that MU has discussed a possible series with BYU along with several other teams.
Starting in 2016, SEC teams are required to schedule at least one nonconference game against a team from the ACC, Big Ten, Big 12 or Pac-12. BYU, an independent, would not qualify as a power conference opponent under the SEC’s mandate.
Last week, the Charleston Gazette reported that West Virginia could play at Missouri in 2016. The Mountaineers, a Big 12 program, would meet the SEC’s requirement. “
Kevin had a sharp eye earlier and spotted a posted schedule had the TBD 11/14 and an open date 10/31.
You mean “starting in 2016”, because Miss, MSU, and at the moment-Mizzou, don’t have P5 games. Miss and MSU’s are particularly embarrassing. South Carolina definitely has the “Auburn schedule” next year. UNC, UCF, & Clemson make that a pretty decent OOC. Citadel’s a stinker, but at least their FCS games are local-homers.
“Citadel’s a stinker.” Haha, Citadel stinked all over USC! ?
How the hell did Texas A&M luck into playing Vandy AGAIN? They played them in 2013. The pairings were fine except it should have been Tennessee vs Texas A&M (never played in SEC) & Vandy vs Arkansas. Makes zero sense.
Normally SEC teams will play home/n/home but due to scheduling conflicts, Vandy played at Texas A&M 2013 & they did not play this year so A&M is going back to Nashville to play Vandy in 2015. Tennessee will be traveling to A&M in 2016 & A&M back to Knoxville in 2017.
1. So if Mizzo plays BYU on 11/14 in 2015, Byu will need to cancel the UNLV game. So who might UNLV play?
2. With both the 2015 UF-NM St and Missi-NM St games reconfirmed today, the Aggies must cancel either BC, NM or UTEP. Both NM St and UTEP are rivalry games so I expect neither of those games being cancelled. But it was recently posted here the 2015 BC-NM St game is still on. But one of the games must be dropped. Any update on this?
3. If the BC-NM St game is cancelled, could Mizzo and Boston College end up hooking up?
4. Otherwise who might the Eagles schedule? Some possibilities:
* San Diego St needs 2 (or 3) games.
* Three other MWC programs have Hawaii exceptions available.
* NM, FIU, ULL and Texas St each have a TBA and only a single P5 opponent scheduled.
* Following are programs with a TBA but with two P5 opponents scheduled:
UCF, ECU, SMU, Tulane, Bowling Green, West Mich, Rice, Lou Tech, So Miss, North Texas, ULM (w/ Hawaii exception).
Or would BC opt out like NC did, and schedule two games versus FCS opponents? That’s the weak way out and certainly has a negative impact on the ACC’s SOS. Opposite of what was expected when ND began scheduling five games versus ACC opponents.
“South Carolina definitely has the “Auburn schedule” next year.”
SC certainly has a quality non-conference schedule next season. But an “Auburn schedule” is not a non-conference schedule to be proud of.
SC has the advantage of rivalry game versus Clemson every season. The Gamecocks need to go beyond that, similar to what Clemson does. Avoid overdosing on SunBelt/CUSA/FCS.
Why did Alabama scheduled Middle Tennessee State and Charleston Southern?
Home games that net them a few million.
Ole miss rebels all the way
Add Vandy to MS, MS St & MO. 8xP-5 + Western KY (1A) + Austin Peay (1AA) + Middle TN (1A) + Houston (1A).
Need a nine game sec schedule. Glad that Mike Slive is gone, he should have worked on getting together a nine game sec schedule, everybody is tired of seeing Florida v. LSU, Mizzou v. A&M, We need nine game SEC schedule, if not the SEC commissioner needs to make a nine game SEC schedule, get your head together, Mr. Commissioner, you’re a freaken idiot, nobody wants Bama playing MTSU or freaken Western Kentucky, get you act together man. You’re stupid. The college football playoff needs to be like the NFL, Ohio State shouldn’t have won it last year, they got lucky. Bama should’ve clomped them, b/c Bama beat the tar out of Florida in 2009 when they had Tim Tebow. Bama had a bad offense, Blake Sims wasn’t too good, Saban should had Kiffin fired, if the offense is mediocre, Kiffin needs to be let go, he should have hired JIm Harbaugh as a offensive coorinator. If Bama doesn’t the national championship this year, I’ll be pointing the fingers at Kiffin.
The REFing in the SEC is quite poor. The calls for targeting are so out of control. This is football where some hits are going to be little high or a helmet may knock together. But you are severely changing the game to where these kids don’t hit or wrap up the player properly. Maybe a softening of the targeting rule and call it a personnel foul for the first offense in the game and then kick the kid out on second or third offense.
