The Mississippi State Bulldogs and the NC State Wolfpack have scheduled a home-and-home football series for 2020 and 2021, both schools announced today.
In the first game of the series on Sept. 12, 2020, Mississippi State will travel to face NC State at Carter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh. The Wolfpack will then return the trip to Davis Wade Stadium at Scott Field in Starkville on Sept. 11, 2021.
Mississippi State and NC State have squared off five times overall, but haven’t met since the Peach Bowl in 1995. The Wolfpack lead the series 3-2.
The Bulldogs now have power five non-conference opponents set for each season from 2020 through 2023, but still need to find one for 2016 through 2019.
Last month, Mississippi State announced a home-and-home series with Arizona for 2022 and 2023.
Mississippi State is the first announced non-conference opponent for NC State for both the 2020 and 2021 seasons. The Wolfpack, slated to play at Notre Dame in 2017, need a power five opponent for 2018 and 2019 and 2022 and beyond.
Football Schedules
I was presuming NC St and Missi St might meet in 2015, possibly on a neutral site. Both still need an OOC game against a power conference program in 2015.
Missouri, Arizona, Vandy and Penn St are also in need of an OOC game against a P5 program in 2015.
UConn, Charlotte and ULL need a P5 game as well.
Missi, OK St, Kansas St, Baylor, Washington and Colorado will not play an OOC game against a P5 opponent in 2015.
Is this a joke…Mississippi State does not have a OOC game with any opponent P5 conference…until the year 2020. This might even embarrass Art Briles at Baylor, OK I know nothing would embarrass the folks at Baylor when it comes to OOC scheduling.
I am thinking there is a serious competition between Baylor and Mississippi State to see which team can play the fewest OOC games with any opponent in a BCS or P5 conference this DECADE.
Baylor has two, yes only two scheduled this decade. That would be one more than Mississippi State (MSU played Oklahoma State in 2013)
Mississippi State will have to add a Power Five team for 2016-19 due to the SEC’s scheduling mandate.
Kevin you are correct my mistake. Sorry Baylor that leave Baylor alone in the pursuit of CUPCAKES!
In defense of MSU, it’s not that easy to do that and keep 7 home games. Scheduling further out is easier before the partner schools lock up their one non-conference road game. I think that is why the ones in the 20s are announced first – there is no need for those schools to move games, they can built around the Mississippi State games.
I am pretty sure they are working on a few good candidates for the 2016-19 years. But the ACC with 5 games against Notre Dame, plus rivalry games with other SEC schools built in, reduces the number of candidates. So does the fact that the B1G, Pac-12, and Big XII playing 9 games in conference doesn’t leave a lot of potential opponents.
Several SEC schools without a built in ACC rival (e.g., Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Kentucky) are going to struggle getting that 9th opponent in a straight up home and home series. I think Mississippi State is being smart in locking down games far out in the future.
Who knows the SEC may start hearing requests, much like the B1G, to allow teams in the conference to play each other as “non-conference” in order to meet that 9th game.
