8 SEC teams? The only ones that deserve to be ranked are Alabama/S.Carolina/Auburn/Georgia/LSU. The only other SEC team that has an argument for a spot is Missouri, and that’s a shaky proposition at best.

What differences in the poll number might we see if the AP preseason poll came out BEFORE the coaches pre-season poll? Why do preseason AP and Coaches polls so closely correlate? Because most sportswriters are not objective/independent? Are they afraid of something?

The pre-season polls should be done away with. Initial polls come out after the fourth game when something has been proven on the field.

I would like to see the playoff committee prove themselves and not give the slightest bit of attention to the polls.

Seems they just ditched anybody NOT in the “power five”. No MAC or Mountain West team can compete against the “Big Boy Football”?. So much hype for these elitist conferences , but Central Florida somehow won a Fiesta Bowl just a few months ago and last I looked Northern Iowa might be the best team in that state. Where are the new TCUs and Utahs going to emerge from if this radical shift to semipro leagues escalates? Greed is going to poison my interest in college football……only so many years before Alabama vs. Oklahoma, Florida State vs. Ohio State, USC vs.Texas, yadda, yadda, yadda becomes repetitious and recycled. Congress intervened once before into the corruption of the BCS, and that’s when non automatic qualifier schools like Boise State were able to pop up and stir the interest. Need a more equable system of representation and wealth accountability than this imminent trainwreck of the “haves” dictating the terms to their permanent entitlement on top of the food chain. The March Madness tournament is so much more fair and enlightened, VCU, George Mason, Butler, Indiana State, they bare witness as something for those who believe in a true chance to compete and succeed.

Good post Jeffrey. Not just shifting to semi-pro, the march is clearly on for the P5 conferences to become the pro AAA farm league for the NFL.

I expect just a few more programs to be move ‘up’ from the G5 to the P5 (Big12/Pac12 increasing in size). Then the P5 will completely secede from the current system as we know it today. P5 programs will continue to play OOC games against G5 programs, but besides on the field rules, that will be the only coordination between the P5 and G5.

When the playoff goes to a 8 or 16 teams, P5 conference programs will likely end up playing one fewer OOC games. Therefore, eventually I see the SEC and the ACC going to a 9-game conference schedule.

Other then FSU at the point I don’t think I can agree with much more in the poll. Being a Bama fan I always like seeing the Tide near the top but with what Oklahoma did in the Sugar how can you drop them to 4th? Oregon and Ohio State have been two of the most overrated teams of the past 5 years or so and once again they are top 5 preseason. Drop Oregon and Ohio State to 8 & 9 then you have a decent looking preseason top 10, of course Oklahoma needs to jump Bama for now also. Florida and Texas are two who should make great strides this season and I don’t see UCF or Louisville dropping like the polls would suggest. Well I am starting to ramble now so lets cut it off here for now, enjoy the season folks…Its Here!!!
RTR!!!!

ND gets rid of their cheaters, FSU welcomes the rapist and Publix store thief – what is wrong with this picture and what a real motivational moment for the young athletes.

C’mon! Florida went 4-8 ( that lost at home to Georgia southern) last year and they are ranked higher than Duke!!! They were 10-4 last year!!What a joke! I am so over the SEC bias! I am a Georgia Tech fan, I do realize the SEC is the best football conference but really! 8 ranked teams! ACC gets no love! I realty hate preseason polls!!

I think there should be a separate poll for the Group of Five Conferences. Now it should look something like this:

2014 Pre-season Top 25 from Group of Five Conferences

1. Central Florida
2. Marshall
3. Cincinnati
4. Boise State
5. BYU
6. Houston
7. Northern Illinois
8. Louisiana-LaFayette
9. East Carolina
10. Arkansas State
11. Middle Tennessee
12. Utah State
13. San Diego State
14. Ball State
15. Rice
16. Fresno State
17. UTSA
18. North Texas
19. South Alabama
20. Ohio
21. Toledo
22. Bowling Green
23. San Jose State
24. Troy
25. Colorado State

I feel to much is given to polls if two teams have the numbers at the end they should meet and play. whats wrong with a three game playoff at the end of the season to decide it.

what blows my mind is auburn won the SEC last year. but you cant find auburn merchandise anywhere. yeah theres a sticker or a cap. but its all surrounded by FSU and BAMA stuff. theres one piece of AU merch for every 100 pieces of FSU or BAMA. what the hell merch people get on your game i would have spent $1000 on AU stuff had it been there

Missou is a shaky addition at best. MSU should be ranked higher, OKie a big lower. South Carolina does not look like a top 25 team. There should be a few Non AQ teams in the top 25 also
