The Navy Midshipmen have posted a tentative 2015 non-conference football schedule to their official website that includes games against Air Force, Army, Hawaii and Notre Dame.
Navy is set to join the Big East in 2015 and is in the process of paring down their future non-conference football schedules. As an FBS Independent, the Middies had 12 and sometimes 13 individual games to schedule each season. But as a member of the Big East, Navy will likely only have four non-conference games.
That puts them in the position of having to cancel several games from 2015 forward, a process that started in April with the cancellation of a four-game series against UNLV. Navy also canceled a 2014 game at Rice last month.
For the 2015 season, Navy had 10 games scheduled, one of which was against UNLV. The following four games were recently posted by Navy:
- 10/03 – Air Force
- 10/10 – at Notre Dame
- 11/28 – at Hawaii
- 12/12 – Army (at Philadelphia, PA)
With the tentative schedule posted, it would appear that the following five games have or will be officially canceled or postponed soon:
at Texas State (Sept. 19, 2015)
Navy hosts Texas State on Nov. 17, 2012 in the first game of a home-and-home series that was agreed to back in December 2010. With the 2012 game set, the 2015 contest will likely be postponed or bought out.
vs. Toledo (Oct. 17, 2015)
Navy is currently scheduled to visit Toledo on Oct. 19, 2013 to start a home-and-home series that was signed in May 2009. There’s a slight chance this series could get canceled altogether, but the 2015 game could also be moved to another season.
at San Diego State (Nov. 7, 2015)
San Diego State joins the Big East in 2013, so the two schools could still end up playing a conference game in 2015. Navy’s visit to San Diego State in 2014 remains on the schedule for the time being.
vs. South Alabama (Nov. 14, 2015)
Navy and South Alabama announced a 4-game series back in 2008. The two schools are slated to play in Annapolis in 2013 and Mobile in 2014 and 2016. If the series is kept on the books, the 2015 game in Annapolis will likely be moved to another season.
at Syracuse (date TBA)
The Middies were slated to visit Syracuse in 2015, but an exact date was never announced. The game is not listed on Navy’s tentative 2015 slate. And with Syracuse joining the ACC (9-game conference schedule), they will also need to eliminate a few non-conference games.
One of the previously mentioned games could stay on the schedule if Navy keeps the away game at Hawaii. Teams that play at Hawaii during the regular season have the option of scheduling a 13th game under The Hawaii Exemption.
Nice, no D1-AA game.
hope they keep the games with South Alabama, really looking forward to that series
agreed…almost as good as the Savannah State-Oklahoma State classic this year!
*LOL*
Glad it didn’t affect SJS’s 4 games with the Squids….
Good, this probably means Big East plays a 9-game conference schedule.
Or they simply haven’t scheduled a 13th game yet, or don’t plan to.
