The Big East officially announced their 2012 football schedules today. Conference play begins on Thursday, Sept. 6 when Cincinnati hosts Pittsburgh.
For the 2012 season, the Big East welcomes Temple as a new member. The Owls, who have competed in the MAC since 2007, were members of the Big East from 1991 through 2004.
West Virginia is no longer a part of the conference as they have departed to compete in the Big 12. TCU also left for the Big 12, but they never actually engaged in Big East play.
Featured 2012 non-conference match-ups for the Big East include Cincinnati vs. Virginia Tech (at Landover, MD), Connecticut at Maryland, North Carolina at Louisville, Virginia Tech at Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh at Notre Dame, Army at Rutgers, Syracuse vs. USC (at East Rutherford, NJ), Florida State at USF, USF at Miami (FL) and Maryland at West Virginia.

Any indication who Temple might add for their additional non-conference game? I’m assuming it will be a FCS opponent?
An FCS team appears to be the only option.
Temple indicated in their release that they will play only 11 games this season.
Temple is also saying they are seeking a 12th game, but will play 11 if necessary.
Good to see the possibility of Rutgers and Syracuse having to play twice was much ado about nothing.
Boise State, Nevada, and Hawaii need another game.
Temple would likely have to travel. It would have to be a lot of money because Temple is cash-strapped.
Hunh? All three of those teams already have 12 games on their schedule.
Boise State and Nevada can play 13 games since they both play at Hawaii (The Hawaii Exemption). Hawaii can always play 13 games if they choose. The extra home game helps them offset travel costs to the mainland.
I don’t want to see another 3-way tie for conference champion. Have a feeling we may see that again in the Big East this season. None of these sides really stand out to me.
