The Georgia Bulldogs have added the Indiana State Sycamores to their 2023 football schedule, FBSchedules.com has learned.
A copy of the Binding Memorandum of Understanding and an amendment to the original MOA were obtained from Indiana State University via a state public records request.
Georgia will host Indiana State at Sanford Stadium in Athens on a date to be determined in 2023. The date was initially agreed to be determined by Dec. 1, 2017, but the amendment pushed that date back to May 1, 2018.
According to the document, Georgia will pay Indiana State a $500,000 guarantee for playing the game.
Indiana State is a member of the Missouri Valley Conference in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). In their first season under new head coach Curt Mallory, the Sycamores finished winless at 0-11 and 0-8 in conference play.
The Sycamores are the second known non-conference opponent for Georgia in 2023. The Bulldogs are also slated to close the regular-season at in-state rival Georgia Tech in Nov. 25.
In SEC action in 2023, Georgia is scheduled to host Kentucky, Missouri, South Carolina, and Ole Miss and travel to Auburn, Florida (in Jacksonville), Tennessee, and Vanderbilt.
Georgia now has four FCS opponents on their future schedules. The Bulldogs are set to host Austin Peay in 2018, Murray State in 2019, ETSU in 2020, and Indiana State in 2023.
Future Georgia Football Schedules
Kevin……hope you have some cold milk to go along with your cupcake here. Indiana State?????
I do not like the trend of SEC school scheduling FCS schools on their schedules. The talent difference is just so great it makes for a lousy game. Georgia is one of the schools that has played two out of conference games against Power 5 teams as well, So be scheduling heros and drop the FCS schools and upgrade to the Sun Belt.
It’t not a trend. It’s been going on for decades all across college football.
If they upgraded their schedules, they would have to rename the league….you can’t be playing real road games and quality teams and still be called Schedule Easy Cupcakes…..*W*
I wonder if UGa included a 2 game basketball package into the deal. I know a lot of schools do a 2 sports contracts as well….an Indiana State-Georgia hoops game would be a good one to watch.
No one can trash Georgia scheduling over the years, they have played some tough teams & ending the season every year with Ga. Tech is no joke.
