The Akron Zips and the UMass Minutemen have scheduled a home-and-home football series for 2019 and 2020.
News of the series was first announced by UMass Director of Athletics Ryan Bamford during an interview on National Signing Day.
Per a copy of the game contract obtained from the University of Akron via a state open records request, we now know the exact dates and locations.
In the first game of the series, Akron will travel to face UMass at McGuirk Alumni Stadium in Amherst on Sept. 28, 2019. The Zips will then host the Minutemen the following season at InfoCision Stadium-Summa Field on Oct. 3, 2020.
Akron leads the all-time series with UMass 3-1. All four meetings between the two schools came when UMass, now an FBS Independent, was a member of the MAC.
Football Schedules
What is the over/under for UMass to return to FCS. I say: 2022. They will never be invited to the AAC or C-USA…
Your headline editor and copy editor need to have a meeting. ;-)
We don’t have either of those here.
Never made any sense for UMass to leave the MAC,they were a perfect fit there.
The only way UMass could have stayed in the MAC was to move all their sports to the MAC. That would not have made sense
