The Iowa Hawkeyes and the Iowa State Cyclones have extended their football series through the 2023 season, the two schools announced on Tuesday.
The Iowa-Iowa State series, currently known as the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series, began in 1894 and has been played annually since 1977. Iowa leads the overall series 42-22 and has won two straight.
Exact dates for the matchups were not included in the release, but a previous listing from the schools mentioned the games were set for Sept. 10, 2022 in Iowa City and Sept. 9, 2023 in Ames.
Below are future dates for the Iowa-Iowa State series:
- Sept. 9, 2017 – at Iowa State
- Sept. 8, 2018 – at Iowa
- Sept. 14, 2019 – at Iowa State
- Sept. 12, 2020 – at Iowa
- Sept. 11, 2021 – at Iowa State
- Sept. 10, 2022 – at Iowa
- Sept. 9, 2023 – at Iowa State
Iowa opens the 2017 season on Saturday, Sept. 2 at home vs. Wyoming, while Iowa State opens on the same day at home vs. Northern Iowa.
Football Schedules
This does not surprise me nor bother me, they’re rivals plus Iowa St counts as a P5 team which makes it great for Iowa to keep scheduling a mediocre OOC now having to play in a 9 game conference. They have got it made, as long as they can survive The BIG schedule.
It is bad for Iowa fans who want to see good games. Iowa only plays iowa state outside of the big ten.
I like that we have a bit of a rivalry with iowa state but we need tougher games outside of the big 10
