The Oregon Ducks and the Virginia Cavaliers have scheduled a home-and-home football series for 2013 and 2016, the Richmond Times-Dispatch has reported. The two schools have never met in football.
Oregon will travel to face Virginia at Scott Stadium in Charlottesville on Sept. 7, 2013. The final game of the series is set for Sept. 10, 2016 at Autzen Stadium in Eugene.
The 2013 game is a late addition for both schools. Virginia was slated to play at Penn State in 2013, but it appears that the Nittany Lions have canceled that game in favor of a series against UCF.
Barring any additional changes, the Cavaliers also host BYU (Aug. 31), VMI (Sept. 21), and Ball State (Oct. 5). In ACC play, Virginia hosts Duke, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, and Clemson and travels to Miami, North Carolina, Pittsburgh, and Maryland.
Oregon, whose 2013 schedule was officially announced on Jan. 10, was previously scheduled to play at Nevada on Sept. 7, 2013, so we assume that game has also been postponed or canceled. The Ducks beat the Wolf Pack 69-20 in the first game of the two-game series back in 2011.
With Oregon heading for Virginia instead, it’s rumored that Nevada will replace them with a game against BYU. The Cougars are expected to announce their 2013 schedule soon, possibly on tonight’s episode of True Blue on BYUtv (8:30 p.m. ET).
Update (5:30 p.m. ET)
The series is now official after both Oregon and Virginia released announcements.
