Nebraska and Oklahoma have scheduled a 2021-22 home-and-home football series, both schools announced this afternoon.
Oklahoma will host the first game of the series at Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium in Norman on Sept. 18, 2021. Nebraska will host the second game at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln on Sept. 17, 2022.
“Our rivalry with Oklahoma has been one of the great traditional matchups in the history of college football,” Nebraska Athletic Director Tom Osborne said. “The games between the two schools were generally to decide a conference championship, and many times helped determine the national champion. Those matchups were always played with great intensity on the field, but with a great deal of respect from both sides and among the fan bases.
“I know our fans look forward to non-conference games against high-profile opponents like Oklahoma. I’m pleased we were able to finalize this series.”
“Classic rivalries like Oklahoma-Nebraska are part of college football’s historic fabric,” said OU vice president and director of athletics, Joe Castiglione. “The ability to rekindle a fabled series between two tradition-rich programs and two extremely loyal and passionate fan bases was very important to both universities.”
“Playing marquee non-conference opponents remains an integral part of our scheduling philosophy. Games like Oklahoma-Nebraska embody all the qualities that make regular season Saturdays in college football matter to so many.”
The 2021 contest will mark the 50th anniversary of the “Game of the Century.” Nebraska, the defending national champions and ranked number one, defeated no. 2 Oklahoma 35-31 at Owen Field in Norman on Nov. 25, 1971.
Nebraska and Oklahoma have a long rivalry that dates back to 1912. The two schools met eight times between 2000 and 2010 and played each year from 1928 through 1997. The Sooners lead the overall series 45-38-3.
Their last meeting was in the Big 12 Championship Game on Dec. 4, 2010. Oklahoma beat Nebraska 23-20.

Oh heck yea!! cant wait to watch the Sooners destroy Nebraska!! Those cornhuskers deserve to lose 100-0!! BOOMER SOONER TILL I DIE!!!
p.s. your date is wrong, it should be December 4, 2010. OU was ranked 9th and Nebraska was ranked 13. I remember it like yesterday! Theres nothing better then beating Texas, OSU, or….Nebraska!!!
some traditional matchups should never be stopped, even if schools change conferences………..Nebraska/Oklahoma, and Texas/Texas A&M should never go away…..look at Georgia/Ga. Tech……..S. Carolina/Clemson. They fulfill their conf. obligations just fine and still have quality O.O.C. games.
I agree these rivalries should never go away
Glad to see this finally materialize after two years of rumors. I just wish OU and NU would make this a permanent O.O.C game every year, like Florida and Florida State.
Sooners vs Huskers was the game when they were fighting for the conference title .
it’s just another non conference game.
P.S. the other games mentioned were between instate collegesnot two states away from each other .
I think oklahoma should play texas, oklahoma state, and nebraska every year no matter what
And I think nebraska should play oklahoma, colorado, and iowa every year no matter what and by the way I think nebraska should play iowa on rivalry week in even-numbered years and oklahoma in odd-numbered years and oklahoma should play oklahoma state on rivalry week in even-numbered years and on odd-numbered years they should play on championship week
kool cornhuskers & sooners. lets get it on. history finally comes back 2 the future.
