The VMI Keydets have rescheduled their future football series with both the Georgetown Hoyas and Richmond Spiders, FBSchedules.com has learned.
VMI and Georgetown originally agreed to a home‑and‑home series in 2023, with games set for Sept. 14, 2030 at Alumni Memorial Field in Lexington, Va., and Sept. 13, 2031 at Cooper Field in Washington, D.C.
According to an amendment to the game contract obtained from Virginia Military Institute via a state Freedom of Information Act request, the two schools have now pushed the series back five years. VMI will host the opener on Sept. 1, 2035, with Georgetown hosting the return matchup on Sept. 6, 2036.
The Keydets and Hoyas first met in 1898 and have played eight times overall. Georgetown won the most recent meeting in 2004, a 21–0 victory, and leads the all‑time series 7–1.
VMI and Richmond began a three‑game series in 2025, with future contests scheduled for Sept. 2, 2028 in Lexington and Sept. 1, 2029 at E. Claiborne Robins Stadium in Richmond, Va. Those final two games have now been rescheduled — and one additional matchup added — per a new agreement obtained from VMI.
Under the revised terms, VMI will host Richmond on Aug. 28, 2032, then travel to Richmond on Aug. 27, 2033 and again on Aug. 25, 2035. Financials for the series include a $25,000 guarantee paid by VMI for the 2032 home game, followed by payouts of $50,000 and $75,000 to VMI for the 2033 and 2035 road contests.
The Keydets and Spiders have met 91 times since their series began in 1893. Richmond has won the last 13 matchups dating back to 1997 and holds a 46‑40‑5 advantage in the all‑time series.
