The Troy Trojans and NC State Wolfpack have shifted the date of their 2029 football matchup, FBSchedules.com has learned.
The game was originally slated for September 1, 2029, at Carter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh, N.C. According to an amendment to the game contract obtained from Troy University via a state open records request, the contest has been shifted forward and will now be played on August 25, 2029.
The adjustment aligns with the NCAA’s June decision to implement a uniform 14‑week regular season beginning in 2027. Under the new model, FBS programs may open most seasons during what is currently known as Week Zero—the weekend before Labor Day—which will become the standard Week 1.
The rescheduled 2029 matchup marks the second game of what was originally intended to be a home‑and‑home series. The two programs last met in Raleigh in 2015 — a 49–21 Wolfpack victory — and were slated to play in Troy in 2017 before the contest was ultimately moved back to Raleigh.
Troy’s 2029 non‑conference schedule also includes home dates against UAB on Sept. 8 and Austin Peay on Sept. 15, followed by a road trip to Sam Houston on Sept. 22.
NC State’s 2029 non‑league slate currently features three additional announced games, though one will need to be removed to accommodate the ACC’s new nine‑game conference format: at USF on Sept. 8, vs. Campbell on Sept. 22, and vs. Notre Dame on Oct. 6.
Troy (2–2, 0–0 Sun Belt) next hosts Southern Miss on Tuesday, Oct. 6 at 8pm ET on ESPN2. NC State (3-2, 1-1 ACC) is scheduled to host Louisville on Saturday, Oct. 10 at noon ET with coverage on The CW.
