Rutgers completes 2011 non-conference football schedule

The Rutgers Scarlet Knights have completed their 2011 non-conference football schedule, which features games against Army, Navy and North Carolina.

Yesterday, The Star-Ledger reported that Rutgers will open the 2011 season at home on Thursday, September 1 against the North Carolina Central Eagles. NCCU competes in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference of the Football Championship Subdivision.

On September 10, the Scarlet Knights will travel to face the North Carolina Tar Heels. Rutgers leads the overall series 3-2 but lost 17-13 at home last season .

Rutgers hosts the Ohio Bobcats on September 24 and then the Navy Midshipmen on October 15. Rutgers and Ohio have split their only two meetings which were in 1937 and 2006.

The Scarlet Knights and Midshipmen have played 23 times since 1891 and the series is dead even at 11-11-1. In their last meeting in 2008, Navy won in Annapolis 23-21.

Rutgers’ final non-conference game is November 12 against Army. The game will be played at Yankee Stadium in Bronx, New York. This series is also very close as the Scarlet Knights, who have won seven in a row, hold a slim 19-18 lead over the Black Knights.
