College football’s Week 4 rankings for the 2026 season delivered another shake‑up, highlighted by a major surge from Ole Miss after its 32–24 win over then‑No. 7 LSU in Oxford.
The Rebels vaulted four spots to No. 4 in the AP Poll and climbed three places in the Coaches Poll, capitalizing on a marquee victory over the Tigers and former head coach Lane Kiffin. The win pushed Ole Miss to 4–0 and marked the program’s highest AP ranking since 2014.
Texas (3–0) retained its hold on No. 1 in both major polls after a dominant 30–6 victory over UTSA in Austin. The Longhorns, who ascended to the top spot last week following their win over Ohio State, continue to look like the nation’s most complete team. Georgia and Notre Dame remained steady at Nos. 2 and 3, respectively, keeping the top of the rankings unchanged outside of Ole Miss’ rise.
Louisville recorded the week’s biggest jump in the AP Poll, climbing seven spots to No. 16 after a 41–31 win over then‑No. 16 SMU. Florida and Mississippi State also made notable moves, each leaping from unranked into the poll at Nos. 21 and 24 following weekend victories.
Texas A&M suffered the steepest fall, tumbling 14 places to No. 23 after a 31–21 home loss to Kentucky — the Aggies’ first setback this season.
Oklahoma, despite a lackluster offensive showing, still managed to defeat New Mexico but dropped out of the AP Top 25 after the uninspiring performance. Virginia also fell out of the poll following its loss.
