The North Texas Mean Green and UTEP Miners have agreed to a home-and-home football series for the 2028 and 2031 seasons, FBSchedules.com has learned. A copy of the contract was obtained from the University of North Texas via a state public information request.
North Texas will open the series at home, hosting UTEP at DATCU Stadium in Denton, Texas, on September 23, 2028. The matchup shifts to El Paso, Texas, three seasons later, with the Miners set to host the Mean Green at Sun Bowl Stadium on September 6, 2031.
North Texas and UTEP have met 31 times on the gridiron in a series that began in 1951. The Mean Green have won six consecutive games against the Miners, most recently a 31-13 decision in 2022, and currently lead the overall series 20-8-3.
The addition of UTEP tentatively completes North Texas’ 2028 non-conference football schedule. The Mean Green are currently slated to visit Baylor on Sept. 2 before hosting Louisiana Tech on Sept. 9 and East Texas A&M on Sept. 16.
In 2031, North Texas is set to visit Missouri on Sept. 13 and host Western Michigan on Sept. 20.
UTEP has also completed its 2028 non-league slate with the addition of North Texas. The Miners are scheduled to visit Nebraska on Sept. 2 before entertaining Utah State (Sept. 9) and Texas State (Sept. 16) at the Sun Bowl.
The Miners’ 2031 slate also includes road tilts against Texas on Sept. 13 and Texas State on Sept. 27.
