The Mississippi State Bulldogs have pared down their future football series with Southern Miss and Tulane, trimming each to a single game, according to updates on MSU’s official athletics website.
The Bulldogs and Golden Eagles were originally slated to begin a home‑and‑home series on September 14, 2030, in Hattiesburg, with the return game scheduled for September 13, 2031, in Starkville. MSU’s updated schedule now shows that the 2030 trip to Southern Miss has been canceled. The remaining matchup has been moved up two seasons and will be played on September 15, 2029, at Davis Wade Stadium.
Mississippi State has also reworked its future series with Tulane. The Bulldogs were set to host the Green Wave on September 7, 2030, before traveling to New Orleans in 2032. The 2030 game has been removed, and instead of a road trip in 2032, Tulane will now visit Starkville on September 11, 2032.
Two additional scheduling adjustments appear on MSU’s updated slate. The Bulldogs’ 2029 home game against West Georgia has been shifted from September 1 to August 25, a move tied to the NCAA’s adoption of a 14‑week regular season for FBS and FCS programs.
Mississippi State has also added Troy to its 2030 schedule, with the Trojans set to visit Starkville on September 14. The schools had previously arranged a 2026–27 home‑and‑home series, but those games were canceled following the SEC’s transition to a nine‑game conference schedule.
Earlier on Tuesday, we reported that Mississippi State shifted its 2027 home game against Missouri State from Sept. 4 to Aug. 28.
Additionally, State 1878 reported that Mississippi State added a home game against Louisiana Tech on Sept. 16, 2028. The game replaces a contest at Memphis, which has been canceled per State 1878. MSU’s website states that the Bulldogs will now host the Tigers on Sept. 16, 2034, five seasons later than originally planned.
MSU’s scheduling shuffle mirrors a broader trend across the SEC, as programs recalibrate future non-conference lineups in the nine‑game era. It also reflects a growing pattern of power‑conference teams reducing or eliminating trips to Group of Six venues.

Wouldn't EVER want somebody ringing a cowbell in my ear the whole game! Have taken Davis Wade off my bucket list of stadiums to visit.
My guess (and it's just a guess) is that the Mississippi State's fee to cancel their travel half of the contract is LESS than what MSU would have to pay Southern Miss or Tulane in guarantee for a one-game series at Starkville.
Don't worry, we'll be cancelling that trip to Starkville anyway. There are better G6 programs that will schedule a home and home, rather than wasting a trip to a lower tier SEC program. Remind me, how many SEC football titles does Miss State have? Get back to me when you equal the 3 that Tulane has.
Hmmm, Miss State must be so good that they are afraid to visit G5 stadiums, sure that is the case................
State will have to find a replacement game for that Tulane home game also. We're no longer a team that needs to play buy games. I'll bet we can find a better program in the G6 to play a home and home with rather than playing a terrible Miss State team. I mean, how many SEC football titles have they won in their history? I know Tulane has three.
