The Michigan Wolverines have announced new dates for their football games against the Texas Longhorns and Buffalo Bulls in 2027.

Michigan and Texas were previously scheduled to meet on September 11, 2027 at Darrell K Royal – Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin, Texas. The game is the conclusion of a home-and-home series that began with a 31-12 Longhorns victory in Ann Arbor in 2024.

According to the release, the Wolverines will now visit the Longhorns one week earlier on September 4, 2027.

News of the game likely shifting dates was first reported on Tuesday when we learned that Michigan had rescheduled its 2027 game against Eastern Michigan from September 18 to September 11. That created a date conflict with the Texas game that had been scheduled for that date.

Michigan also announced today its home contest against Buffalo, previously set for the 2027 season-opener on September 4, will now be the season-opener on August 28.

The date adjustments follow the NCAA’s June decision to adopt a uniform 14‑week regular season beginning in 2027. Under the new model, FBS programs may begin most seasons during what is currently known as Week Zero—the weekend before Labor Day—which will become the standard Week 1.

Michigan is set to open the 2026 season on Saturday, Sept. 5 — its first under new head coach Kyle Whittingham — at home against Western Michigan. The game will air on NBC and stream on Peacock at 7:30pm ET.

  • I am blessed & happy that Michigan will play at Texas in Austin after all

Houston (Spacetown) would make a fantastic neutral site for two space grant schools.
