The Vanderbilt Commodores and Virginia Cavaliers have scheduled a home-and-home football series for 2028 and 2031, it was announced Friday.

The schools will face off in Nashville’s FirstBank Stadium in the opening half of the agreement on Sept. 16, 2028. The series then reverts to Scott Stadium in Charlottesville, Va., in 2031. Game dates, times, and television arrangements will be announced later.

Vanderbilt leads the all-time series, 12-7-2, though the schools have not faced off since a 1975 battle in Nashville.

The Commodores are the third non-league opponent for the Hoos in 2028, joining Richmond (Sept. 23) and James Madison (TBA). Vanderbilt hosts Tennessee State (Sept. 2) and visits NC State (Sept. 16) as part of the 2028 campaign.

This is the first confirmed 2031 game for Vanderbilt. Virginia will visit Washington State (Sept. 13) and host Richmond (Sept. 20) and Notre Dame (TBA) in that season.

    • It's too late Z-Man nine game conference schedule will be new norm for College Football & this would help TV networks very much.

If have zero interest in nine game conference schedule & I told you a lot to not watch college football if it bothers you.

    • Why are you still crying about less conference games? Please stop! That ship has sailed!!!!

  • Shocking. I just recently read someone on here proclaim that HaH OOC games wouldn't happen any more.

I'm shocked, SHOCKED that that person is so wrong.

    • Yes Richard, clearly you are referring to me. One random OOC game between typically middling power conference teams is nice but is the exception rather than the norm. Texas is already talking about bagging out of their series with ND but keep celebrating this exciting series. Several Big 10 teams don't play a single power conference team. That should be the bigger issue.

    • Gerry: "Exception" evidently means to you "what most schools do" rather than how the vast majority of people use the word since, if you actually take a look at schedules, you'll see that most schools are participating in a OOC HaH series in 2025.

  • An ACC-SEC home-and-home series that's not Clemson-SC or FSU-Florida? In this day and age?

    • Why on earth would UVA want to cancel a game versus Notre Dame? They're of course going to cancel that game at that sissy WSU, what madman would want a P4 school to play a GO6 school on the road?!?!?!

  • Wow! An SEC team with two P4 OOC games in 2028. Surely, the road contest against NC State will get cancelled. We can't have Vanderbilt dictating what other SEC teams should do.

    • Georgia will be playing Florida State and Georgia Tech in 2028.

Instead of worrying about the SEC playing two power teams outside their conference, we need to put that energy towards Big Ten teams playing no power schools outside of their conference.

Next year Indiana, Nebraska, Penn State, USC, and Washington feature no power teams on their out of conference slate.

Meanwhile every SEC team plays a Power 4 team outside their conference schedule.

    • You have to watch what you say Dan NW-IL-MI. Your behavior is going to get more comment sections closed.
