The South Carolina Gamecocks have moved their 2027 home matchup against the Furman Paladins to the season opener, FBSchedules.com has learned.
South Carolina had previously been scheduled to host Furman on September 4, 2027, a date announced last year. According to an amendment to the game contract obtained from the University of South Carolina via a state open records request, the contest has been shifted forward and will now be played on August 28, 2027, at Williams–Brice Stadium in Columbia, S.C.
The date adjustment aligns with the NCAA’s June decision to adopt a uniform 14‑week regular season beginning in 2027. Under the new model, FBS programs may begin most seasons during what is currently known as Week Zero—the weekend before Labor Day—which will become the standard Week 1.
The Gamecocks and Paladins have met 50 times, most recently in 2023 when South Carolina earned a 47–21 victory. The Gamecocks have won three straight in the series and hold a 29‑20‑1 all‑time advantage.
South Carolina’s remaining non‑conference slate in 2027 includes home games against Appalachian State on September 11 and in‑state rival Clemson on November 27.
The Gamecocks are set to open the 2026 season at home on Saturday, September 5, against Kent State. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:45pm ET on the SEC Network.
