The San Jose State Spartans and Sacramento State Hornets have scheduled a six-game football series beginning in 2027, both schools announced Wednesday.
Sacramento State moved up to the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) this year and is currently competing in the Mid-American Conference (MAC). San Jose State has been a member of the Mountain West Conference since its inception in 2013.
In the first game of the series, San Jose State will travel to face Sacramento State at Hornet Stadium in Sacramento, Calif., on September 25, 2027. For the Spartans, that replaces a previously scheduled game against Fresno State.
San Jose State is also scheduled to visit Sacramento State on Sept. 16, 2034 and Sept. 13, 2036. The Spartans will host the Hornets at CEFCU Stadium in San Jose, Calif., on Sept. 14, 2030, with additional contests scheduled for Sept. 11, 2032 and Sept. 15, 2035.
“We are thrilled to bring this series with Sac State to our fans and the entire Northern California community,” said Jeff Konya, SJSU Director of Athletics. “Maintaining strong regional ties is a priority for our program. With Sac State’s recent elevation to the FBS, these games take on a new level of importance, creating a high-caliber environment that benefits both universities and the student-athletes involved.”
Regarding the previously mentioned San Jose State game in 2027 against Fresno State, that contest has been rescheduled for Sept. 8, 2035. The game is part of a previously announced six-game agreement that begins this Saturday with the Spartans hosting the Bulldogs at CEFCU Stadium.
