The North Carolina Tar Heels and the Old Dominion Monarchs have scheduled a home-and-home football series for 2017 and 2020, ODU announced on Friday.

In the first game of the series, Old Dominion will host North Carolina at Foreman Field in Norfolk, Virginia on Sept. 16, 2017. The Monarchs will then travel to face the Tar Heels at Kenan Memorial Stadium in Chapel Hill on Sept. 26, 2020.

“We are very pleased to add another attractive ACC opponent to our future non-conference football schedule. The home-and-home versus UNC I believe will be very well received by our fan base and add considerable value to our season ticket package,” Selig said. “Additionally, I know from experience the rabid Tar Heel fan base throughout Hampton Roads and I feel certain the Carolina contingent will contribute to the electric atmosphere that defines S. B. Ballard Stadium.”

Old Dominion and North Carolina’s first and only meeting was in Chapel Hill during the 2013 season. The Tar Heels won that game 80-20.

The addition of the series with North Carolina gives Old Dominion three non-conference games in both 2017 and 2020. In 2017, the Monarchs also travel to UMass (Sept. 9) and Virginia Tech (Sept. 23).

In 2020, Old Dominion is scheduled to visit Buffalo (Sept. 12) and host Wake Forest (Sept. 19).

The North Carolina Tar Heels also have three games set on their non-conference schedule for the 2017 season. The Heels open the season at California (Sept. 2) and later host Notre Dame (Oct. 7).

ODU is the first announced non-conference opponent for UNC for the 2020 season.
