The New Mexico Lobos at Colorado State Rams football game scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 24 has been canceled, it was announced on Tuesday.
The game was canceled due to the ongoing novel coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. Below is the full statement from the Mountain West Conference:
Due to the prevalence of the COVID-19 virus in Bernalillo County and in accordance with state guidelines, the University of New Mexico is unable to participate in the scheduled football game on Saturday, Oct. 24 at Colorado State University. Therefore, the Mountain West is canceling the game and declaring it a no contest. There is no plan to reschedule the game.
The game would have been the first of the 2020 season for both New Mexico and Colorado State, which previously had their seasons postponed by the Mountain West.
New Mexico is now scheduled to open the 2020 season at home at Dreamstyle Stadium in Albuquerque, N.M., on Saturday, Oct. 31 against the San Jose State Spartans. The matchup will be televised by FS1 at 7:00pm ET.
Colorado State will kick off their 2020 campaign two days earlier on Thursday, Oct. 29 when they travel to take on the Fresno State Bulldogs at Bulldog Stadium in Fresno, Calif. The game is set for 10:0pm ET on CBS Sports Network.
