The Appalachian State Mountaineers and East Carolina Pirates will play in the 2029 Duke’s Mayo Classic, both schools announced Tuesday.
Appalachian State and East Carolina square off in the Duke’s Mayo Classic at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, N.C., on Saturday, September 1, 2029. The Charlotte Sports Foundation (CSF) is the organizer of the event.
“We’re excited to add another matchup with ECU and to engage with App Nation again in Charlotte,” App State Director of Athletics Doug Gillin said. “The Charlotte area represents a major home base for App State alumni and fans. Games against in-state rivals are great for the fan bases and teams while providing a significant economic impact within the state of North Carolina.”
Appalachian State and East Carolina met earlier this season in Greenville, N.C., which was a 27-24 Mountaineers victory.
“We’re thrilled to welcome East Carolina and App State back to Charlotte in 2029,” said Will Pitts, CEO of the Charlotte Sports Foundation. “When they come together in the Queen City, the energy is electric. This game is a celebration of North Carolina college football, and we can’t wait to see both sides fill Bank of America Stadium.”
Bank of America Stadium, which has a seats 75,037 fans, is home to the Carolina Panthers of the NFL and Charlotte FC of MLS.
“Both football programs have a rich history of success and outstanding fan support,” ECU Director of Athletics Jon Gilbert said. “We are excited for our future football student-athletes who will have an opportunity to play in such an exceptional NFL venue as Bank of America Stadium.”
