Miami (FL) cancels 2014-15 home-and-home series with Memphis

The Miami Hurricanes have canceled a 2014-15 home-and-home football series against the Memphis Tigers, The Miami Herald has reported.

The two schools were scheduled to meet at Sun Life Stadium in Miami on Sept. 13, 2014 and then at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium in Memphis on Sept. 26, 2015.

Miami and Memphis first agreed to the series back in May 2010. The Hurricanes canceled the series because they felt it was “pointless to play,” according to the Herald.

The cancellation leaves Miami with two tentative games set for 2014 (Florida A&M and Nebraska) and four for 2015 (at Toledo, Nebraska, Cincinnati, at Florida Atlantic).

Miami could also have a change to their 2016 and 2017 schedules. The Hurricanes have a home-and-home series set with Notre Dame for those seasons, but the Irish’s recent agreement with the ACC could affect those dates.

Memphis, which joins the Big East in 2013, now has two non-conference games in 2014 (at Ole Miss, Middle Tennessee) and three in 2015 (Missouri, at Kansas, Ole Miss).
