The Iowa Hawkeyes have moved their 2027 home matchup against the North Dakota Fighting Hawks to the season opener, according to a report from the Des Moines Register.
Iowa had previously been scheduled to host North Dakota on September 18, 2027, a matchup we reported last year. According to the Des Moines Register report, the contest has been shifted forward and will now be played on August 28, 2027, at Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City, Iowa.
The date adjustment aligns with the NCAA’s June decision to adopt a uniform 14‑week regular season beginning in 2027. Under the new model, FBS programs may begin most seasons during what is currently known as Week Zero—the weekend before Labor Day—which will become the standard Week 1.
In their only previous gridiron meeting, Iowa defeated North Dakota 40-17 at Kinnick Stadium on Oct. 9, 1926.
Iowa’s remaining non-conference slate in 2027 includes a home game against Ball State on Sept. 4 and a road trip to in-state rival Iowa State on Sept. 11.
In Big Ten play next season, the Hawkeyes are scheduled to host Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, UCLA and USC, and visit Indiana, Nebraska, Oregon and Wisconsin.
Iowa is 2-0 this season after wins over Northern Illinois (40-0) and Iowa State (16-13). The Hawkeyes next host Northern Iowa on Saturday at 4:00pm ET on FS1.
