Idaho Vandals announce 2013 football schedule

The Idaho Vandals have announced their 2013 football schedule, which includes games against Fresno State, NIU, Ole Miss, Temple, and Washington State.

Idaho will be playing the 2013 season as an FBS Independent as a result of the WAC discontinuing football after 2012. All other Vandal sports will join the Big Sky Conference beginning with the 2014-15 school year.

The Vandals previously had games arranged at Wyoming (Sept. 7), vs. Northern Illinois (Sept. 14), at Washington State (Sept. 21), and at Ole Miss (Oct. 26).

This evening, Idaho Director of Athletics Rob Spear revealed the Vandals’ full 2013 slate. Idaho will open the season at North Texas, and will also travel to Arkansas State and New Mexico State. The New Mexico State Aggies will also visit the Kibbie Dome in a rare, same season home-and-home series.

Other teams to visit Moscow in 2013 include Temple, Fresno State, and Old Dominion. Spear said he has a BCS school lined up for Nov. 23, but can not disclose them yet due to a confidentiality agreement. Idaho will receive around $950,000, so it could very well be an SEC school. Auburn and South Carolina currently have that date open as they haven’t confirmed their non-conference schedules yet.

Rob Spear also stated today that all home games are part of home-and-home contracts. That means the Vandals will visit Fresno State, Temple, and Old Dominion in the future. The Arkansas State game was also reported to be a home-and-home by AStateNation.

Updates:

  • The Philadelphia Enquirer reports that Idaho will return the trip to Temple in 2016.
  • The Fresno Bee reports that Idaho will return the trip to Fresno State in 2014.
  • The Virginia-Pilot reports that Idaho will return the trip to Old Dominion in 2019.
