The Hawaii Rainbow Warriors have added the Robert Morris Colonials to their 2020 football schedule, the school announced on Monday.

Hawaii will host Robert Morris at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu, Hawaii, on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2020. The game will mark the first-ever meeting between the two schools on the gridiron.

“I’m pleased we were able to fill one of our open dates with Robert Morris,” Hawaii Athletics Director David Matlin said. “With so much uncertainty surrounding the fall season, it was important to lock up a home game and try to salvage as close to a full schedule as possible. That said, the health and safety of our student-athletes, coaches, and staff is still our number one priority and we’ll make decisions with that in mind.”

Robert Morris, formerly a member of the Northeast Conference in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS), will compete as an Independent in 2020 before moving to the Big South Conference beginning with the 2021 season.

Due to the ongoing novel coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, several of Hawaii’s non-conference games in 2020 have been canceled. Those contests include UCLA and Fordham at home and Arizona and Oregon on the road.

For now, the Robert Morris contest is Hawaii’s season-opener since the four canceled contests were the first four games of the season for the Rainbow Warriors. More additions to Hawaii’s schedule will likely follow.

Robert Morris is currently scheduled to open the 2020 season on Saturday, Sept. 5 at home at Joe Walton Stadium in Moon Township, Pa., against the VMI Keydets.
