The Fordham Rams have canceled their first three 2020 football games due to the Patriot League COVID-19 guidelines, the school announced Tuesday.
The cancellation of the Sept. 5 game with Bryant accompanies previously announced cancellations of an Aug. 29 home date with Stony Brook and a Sept. 12 trip to Hawaii.
(Update: A previous version of this post mentioned a cancellation with Central Connecticut, which was in the original release. That release — and this article — have been updated.)
“I’m disappointed for our student-athletes, coaches, staff, and fans that we had to cancel the first three games of the season, but the health and wellbeing of our student-athletes is our number one priority,” said Fordham interim director of athletics Ed Kull. When we return to campus we will follow all guidelines and precautions mandated by the NCAA, the Patriot League, and the University to protect all involved in our program and department.”
Fordham reiterates in the release that it looks to reschedule all lost games and add a game during its Oct. 24 bye week.
The Rams are now slated to open the 2020 campaign Sept. 26 at 2019 Big South champion Monmouth.
