Charlotte to play at Kansas State in 2016

Charlotte will play at Kansas State in 2016.

The Charlotte 49ers have announced that they have added the Kansas State Wildcats to their 2016 football schedule.

Charlotte will travel to face Kansas State at Bill Snyder Family Football Stadium in Manhattan on Sept. 10, 2016. The game will be the first ever meeting between the two schools.

“We know those guys out there and we’ve talked about scheduling a game and it’s worked out,” Charlotte head coach Brad Lambert said. “Things really changed when we joined Conference USA. They had expressed interest when we were FCS, but I don’t know if it would have happened without us going to Conference USA and the FBS. It will be a good homecoming for me and (Director of Operations) Trevor (Lambert).”

The Charlotte 49ers are set to start their football program in 2013 as an FCS Independent. They will begin C-USA football competition in 2015 after completion of the mandatory two seasons at the FCS level.

Charlotte now has four future games scheduled against FBS opponents: Temple (2015), at Kansas State (2016), at Temple (2016), and at Virginia Tech (2019).

This is the first non-conference game scheduled for Kansas State in 2016. The Wildcats have completed their slate in 2013 and 2014 and need one more game in 2015.
