The Cal Poly Mustangs and San Diego Toreros will meet annually in football through the 2029 season, FBSchedules.com has learned.
A copy of the contract, obtained from California Polytechnic State University via a state public records request, confirms the two programs agreed to a six‑game series beginning in 2024. San Diego won the inaugural matchup, 27–21, while Cal Poly evened the series last fall with a decisive 41–17 victory.
The schools are set to meet again this season on Saturday, September 19 at Mustang Memorial Field in San Luis Obispo, Calif. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:00pm ET / 5:00pm PT on ESPN+.
According to the contract, Cal Poly will travel to Torero Stadium on Sept. 18, 2027, and again on Sept. 1, 2029. The Mustangs will host the Toreros on Sept. 2, 2028.
Cal Poly and San Diego first met in 1959 and have played 11 times overall. The Mustangs have won five of the last six meetings and lead the all‑time series 9–2.
With San Diego locked in, Cal Poly now has two non‑conference opponents scheduled through 2029. The Mustangs are slated to visit Arizona State in 2027 and Fresno State in 2028, and will host Stephen F. Austin in 2029.
San Diego’s 2027 non‑conference slate now includes road trips to UC Davis and Southern Utah alongside the home date with Cal Poly. The Toreros are scheduled to host Idaho State in 2028, then travel to Idaho State and UC Davis in 2029.
