The Alabama Crimson Tide defeated the Notre Dame Fighting Irish 42-14 Monday night in the 2013 Discover BCS National Championship Game.

Alabama (13-1, 7-1 SEC) is the first team to win back-to-back BCS championships and has claimed the BCS title three times in the past four years.

A.J. McCarron completed 20-of-28 passes for 264 yards and four touchdowns and Eddie Lacy, the MVP of the championship game, rushed 20 times for 140 yards and a touchdown.

The Crimson Tide marched 82 yards for a touchdown on the opening drive of the game and never looked back. It was 28-0 Bama at the half and 35-0 before Notre Dame (12-1) got on the scoreboard.

Alabama now has nine AP national championships, one more than Notre Dame. The Irish were looking to win their first championship in 24 years.

Nick Saban now has four national championships to his credit, which puts him only two behind legendary Alabama head coach Paul “Bear” Bryant.
