Air Force, Oklahoma State Cancel Future Football Series

Air Force and Oklahoma State were slated to meet home-and-home in 2015 and 2016, but the two schools have mutually agreed to drop the two-game football series.

The 2015 game was scheduled for Sept. 5 at Falcon Stadium in Colorado Springs with the 2016 game on Sept. 10 at Boone Pickens Stadium in Stillwater.

The cancellation of this series leaves Air Force with a future schedule that primarily consists of games against Army and Navy. The only other series on the schedule is Cincinnati in 2015 and 2017, but there have been “discussions about possible changes to the series,” according to Doug Mosley, UC associate director of athletics for external and media communications.

Air Force is scheduled to open the 2013 season at home against Colgate on Aug. 31. Notre Dame will also make the trip to Colorado Springs and the game will be played in late September, Air Force senior associate athletic director Jim Trego told Gazette.com.

The Falcons and Fighting Irish discussed playing the 2013 game at Sports Authority Field at Mile High in Denver, but eventually Air Force deemed it best to play at Falcon Stadium.

“We decided it wasn’t who we are and it’s best if we keep it in front of our home fans,” Trego said.

As for Oklahoma State, the cancellation gets them out of a scheduling problem in 2015. The Cowboys had four non-conference games scheduled for that season, but they can only play three.

OSU’s 2015 non-conference schedule now consists of home games against Central Arkansas and UTSA and a trip to Central Michigan.
