The ACC has unveiled its conference football opponents for the 2027 season, which will mark the second year of the league’s nine‑game scheduling format.
Sixteen ACC programs will play nine conference opponents plus at least one Power non‑conference opponent in 2027. Clemson is the lone exception, slated to play eight conference games and a minimum of two Power non‑conference opponents — a requirement the Tigers have already met with matchups against Notre Dame and South Carolina.
The ACC’s scheduling model guarantees that every team faces at least 10 Power opponents each season, aligning with similar standards in the Big 12 and SEC.
“Announcing our 2027 conference opponents provides another exciting look ahead for ACC Football and the compelling matchups our fans can expect across the league,” said ACC Commissioner Jim Phillips, Ph.D. “By continuing to ensure that every team plays a minimum of 10 Power Four opponents, this model reinforces the collective strength of ACC Football, supports competitive balance across our 17 programs, and prepares our teams to compete at the highest level nationally.”
Opponents for each ACC team in 2027 are listed below. The full conference schedule is expected to be released early next year.

Nine game conference schedules "The Right Choice"
With Clemson playing only 8 conference games, will
The ACC use winning percentage of conference games to determine the top two seeds for Charlotte championship game?
1=Multi-Team Ties (Not Common Opponents)Head-to-head sweep evaluation: Tied teams that defeated all other involved tied teams move forward; teams with losses to tied teams move back.
2=Team Success Ranking (SportSource Analytics metric).
3=Commissioner draw.
BC has 4 OOC games on their 2027 schedule. Cincin / @Rutgers / UTEP / URI
Who will they cancel?
Would expect Cincinnati or UTEP in order to retain a 7 home game / 5 road game schedule while also meeting the 10 P4 opponent requirements.
We don't know right now.
The ACC should stick to 8 conference games and do a format with 4 protected opponents for each team and 4 rotating opponents on a 6-year schedule, with these being the protected opponents:
Boston College: Miami, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Virginia
California: Clemson, Louisville, SMU, Stanford
Clemson: California, Florida State, Georgia Tech, NC State
Duke: NC State, North Carolina, Syracuse, Wake Forest
Florida State: Clemson, Georgia Tech, Miami, Virginia
Georgia Tech: Clemson, Florida State, Stanford, Virginia Tech
Louisville: California, SMU, Stanford, Virginia Tech
Miami: Boston College, Florida State, Pittsburgh, Syracuse
NC State: Clemson, Duke, North Carolina, Wake Forest
North Carolina: Duke, NC State, Virginia, Wake Forest
Pittsburgh: Boston College, Miami, SMU, Syracuse
SMU: California, Louisville, Pittsburgh, Stanford
Stanford: California, Georgia Tech, Louisville, SMU
Syracuse: Boston College, Duke, Miami, Pittsburgh
Virginia: Boston College, Florida State, North Carolina, Virginia Tech
Virginia Tech: Georgia Tech, Louisville, Virginia, Wake Forest
Wake Forest: Duke, NC State, North Carolina, Virginia Tech
Some of the choices are rather arbitrary, but a lot of regional match-ups get protected in this format, including three four-way round-robins (Boston College/Miami/Pittsburgh/Syracuse, California/Louisville/SMU/Stanford, and Duke/NC State/North Carolina/Wake Forest) as well as a three-way round-robin (Clemson/Florida State/Georgia Tech). Other notable protected match-ups include Duke-Syracuse (in a battle of schools known primarily for basketball), Florida State-Virginia (Jefferson-Eppes Trophy). and Virginia Tech-Wake Forest (geographic proximity).
I have to do this again Z-Man & sorry to criticize you & your proposal for ACC is unfair & last thing I want to wait every three years for Syracuse-Florida State & Syracuse-North Carolina.
Furthermore Z-Man like all P4 conferences they want to have nine game conference schedules so they can play all the teams so fans can look forward to them sooner than way, way later in future.
