The 2020 Mountain West Championship Game is set with the No. 24 San Jose State Spartans hosting the Boise State Broncos. The game will be played on Saturday, Dec. 19 at Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Due to the novel coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, the Mountain West played an eight-game conference only schedule this season. Additionally, the Mountain West determined the championship game teams by overall conference winning percentage, rather than Mountain and West Division winners.
The San Jose State Spartans will be making their first-ever appearance in the Mountain West Championship Game after finishing 6-0 this season. The Spartans clinched the top spot by a half game over Boise State (5-0).
Due to COVID-19 restrictions in San Jose, Calif., San Jose State could not host the game on campus. Therefore, the Mountain West Championship Game was moved to Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas.
The Boise State Broncos clinched their spot in the championship game after finishing 5-0 in Mountain West action (5-1 overall). Boise State will be making their fifth appearance in the Mountain West Championship Game. The Broncos have won the championship game three times, defeating Fresno State in 2014 and 2017 and Hawaii in 2019.
San Jose State and Boise State were scheduled to meet earlier this season at Albertsons Stadium, but the game was canceled due to COVID-19 issues. The two schools have met 14 times previously, with Boise State holding a 14-0 record in the series.
