The West Georgia Wolves and Montana State Bobcats have scheduled a home-and-home football series for the 2030 and 2031 seasons, according to an official announcement Tuesday.
West Georgia will open the series on the road, traveling to face Montana State at Bobcat Stadium in Bozeman, Mont., on September 14, 2030. The matchup shifts to Carrollton, Ga., the following year, with the Wolves set to host the Bobcats at University Stadium on September 6, 2031.
“When the University of West Georgia made the choice to transition to the ranks of Division I, we did so with a bold vision of maximizing the potential of not only our Athletics Department but our campus and broader community,” said Director of Athletics Jason Carmichael. “Taking the bold step to challenge ourselves against a perennial national championship caliber team squarely fits our aspirations for all those aforementioned contexts. We couldn’t be more excited to add this matchup to our opportunities to represent West Georgia.”
West Georgia and Montana State have never squared off on the gridiron in their history.
West Georgia transitioned to the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) in 2024, joining the United Athletic Conference (UAC) after decades at the Division II level. The Wolves posted a 4–7 record in their inaugural FCS campaign and made a significant leap in 2025, finishing 8–3.
Montana State enters the season as the reigning national champion after edging Illinois State, 35–34 in overtime, in last year’s title game. The victory secured the Bobcats’ fourth national championship and their first since 1984.
Montana State joins a road contest against Georgia State (Sept 7) on West Georgia’s 2030 football schedule. In 2031, the Wolves are slated to visit Vanderbilt (Aug. 30) and Chattanooga (Sept. 13).
West Georgia is the first scheduled non-conference opponent for Montana State for both the 2030 and 2031 seasons.
