The Week 6 Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns at Appalachian State Mountaineers football game has been postponed to December, both schools have announced.
Appalachian State postponed the game against Louisiana due to “…COVID-19 positive tests and contact tracing.” App State was slated to host Louisiana at Kidd Brewer Stadium in Boone, N.C., on Wednesday, Oct. 7 at 7:30pm ET with television coverage on ESPN.
The two schools will now meet in Boone on either Friday, Dec. 4 or Saturday, Dec. 5, 2020.
“The health and safety of our student-athletes and university community remain our top priorities as we continue to navigate the unprecedented effects of the coronavirus pandemic,” App State Director of Athletics Doug Gillin said. “While we share in the disappointment of everyone who has worked hard to prepare for this football game, we have known that there will be challenges to maintaining the athletics calendar. We appreciate the continued support of Chancellor Everts for our student-athletes and athletics department, and we support the university’s efforts to maintain a safe learning environment for students, faculty and staff.”
Appalachian State is 2-1 so far this season following home wins over Charlotte (35-20) and Campbell (52-21) and a road loss at Marshall (17-7). The Mountaineers’ next game is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 14 at Georgia Southern (7:30pm ET, ESPN).
“While we are disappointed that we will not be able to play Louisiana next week, we are prioritizing the health and safety of our team, our staff and the university community,” App State head coach Shawn Clark said.
Louisiana is undefeated this season at 3-0 with victories at Iowa State (31-14), at Georgia State (34-31, OT), and at home against Georgia Southern (20-18). The Ragin’ Cajuns are next scheduled to play on Saturday, Oct. 17 at home against Coastal Carolina.
“We are disappointed for our football program, but are certainly supportive and understanding of Appalachian State’s response to this situation,” Louisiana Director of Athletics Bryan Maggard said. “The health and safety of all involved is of the highest importance.”
