The Washington Huskies and Washington State Cougars have moved their 2027 Apple Cup matchup to the opening week of the season, according to an official announcement Monday.
Washington was previously scheduled to visit Washington State on Sept. 18, 2027. Under the revised schedule, the Huskies will travel to Pullman to face the Cougars in both teams’ season opener on August 28, 2027, at Gesa Field at Martin Stadium.
The date change follows the NCAA’s June decision to adopt a uniform 14-week regular season beginning in 2027. Under the new format, most FBS programs will be permitted to open their seasons during the weekend before Labor Day weekend, currently known as “Week Zero,” which will become the standard Week 1.
The 2027 contest is part of a five-game Apple Cup series agreement reached between the two schools in 2024. A date for the 2028 matchup has not yet been announced.
Washington and Washington State have met 118 times in a rivalry that dates back to 1900. The Huskies have won the last two meetings, including a 24-10 victory last month, and hold a commanding 78-34-6 advantage in the all-time series.
Following the season-opening Apple Cup, Washington is scheduled to host Fresno State on Sept. 4 and Portland State on Sept. 11 at Husky Stadium in Seattle.
The Big Ten previously announced its 2027 conference opponents. The Huskies will host Maryland, Michigan State, Nebraska, Oregon, and USC, while traveling to Minnesota, Northwestern, Penn State, and Rutgers.
For Washington State, the Huskies are one of four non-conference opponents on the 2027 slate. The Cougars are also slated to host Idaho on Sept. 4 and Kansas on Sept. 11 before traveling to Arizona on Sept. 25.
