The Wake Forest Demon Deacons and the UConn Huskies have scheduled a home-and-home football series for the 2024 and 2028 seasons, both schools announced on Thursday.
In the first game of the series, Wake Forest will host UConn at Truist Field in Winston-Salem, N.C., on Saturday, Oct. 12, 2024. The series will conclude four seasons later with the Demon Deacons traveling to face the Huskies at Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field in East Hartford, Conn., on Saturday, Sept. 16, 2028.
“With so many Demon Deacon families and alumni in Connecticut, New England and the tri-state, we are excited to provide this home-and-home opportunity for Deacon Nation,” Wake Forest director of athletics John Currie said. “AD David Benedict leads a first-class athletics program at UConn and the opportunity to bring the Huskies and Demon Deacons together is great for college football.”
Wake Forest and UConn first met on the gridiron in 2003 and have played three times overall. In their most recent matchup in the 2007 Meineke Car Care Bowl in Charlotte, N.C., the Demon Deacons defeated the Huskies 24-10 to take a 2-1 advantage in the series.
“Over the past couple of years the northeast has become a productive recruiting area for our staff at Wake Forest,” head coach Dave Clawson said. “We love to play games in areas that we recruit to further showcase the Wake Forest brand.”
