The Virginia Tech Hokies and the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders have scheduled a home-and-home football series for 2020 and 2021, both schools announced on Monday.
The two schools will kick off the series at Johnny “Red” Floyd Stadium in Murfreesboro, Tennessee on Sept. 19, 2020. The series will then conclude the following season at Lane Stadium in Blacksburg, Virginia on Sept. 11, 2021.
For Virginia Tech, this series replaces a series with the Michigan Wolverines that was scheduled for the same dates. Michigan replaced Virginia Tech with contests at home against Arkansas State in 2020 and Washington in 2021.
The Hokies have now completed their non-conference schedules for both the 2020 and 2021 seasons. In 2020, Virginia Tech is also slated to host Liberty, Penn State, and East Carolina. Other opponents in 2021 include Richmond, West Virginia (away), and Notre Dame.
“This will be a tremendous game for our fans and a great opportunity for our program,” said Middle Tennessee Director of Athletics Chris Massaro. “I really want to thank Whit Babcock (VT AD) and his staff for working with us and helping make it happen.”
In order to schedule the Virginia Tech series, Middle Tennessee had to move a previously scheduled home game with Liberty that was scheduled for Sept. 19, 2020. The Blue Raiders will now host the Flames on Oct. 3, 2026.
“I also want to extend thanks to Liberty AD Ian McCaw and his staff for being able to move our game in 2020 to make this happen,” Massaro said. “Scheduling is never easy and it takes a lot of people working together and I appreciate what Liberty was able to work out.”
