Virginia Tech athletic director Jim Weaver announced on Tech Talk Live! today that their contest in 2015 against Ohio State will be played on Labor Day evening (Sept. 7).

The game was previously scheduled for Sept. 19, 2015. It will still be played at Lane Stadium in Blacksburg and is expected to be televised nationally by an ESPN network.

The 2015 game is part of a home-and-home series that has been on the books for years. Ohio State is scheduled to host Virginia Tech in the first game of the series on Sept. 20, 2014.

Virginia Tech was slated to open the 2015 season at home on Sept. 5 against Furman. That game will have to be moved or bought out. The Hokies also travel to East Carolina on Sept. 12 and will need one or two more non-conference games depending on what happens with Furman.

Ohio State currently has one non-conference game on their 2015 schedule, a Sept. 12 date at home vs. Northern Illinois. However, the status of that game is in flux and NIU could ultimately cancel the game.

If the NIU game is canceled or perhaps postponed, then Ohio State would need three additional non-conference games in order to complete their 2015 slate.
