The Virginia Tech Hokies have added the Gardner-Webb Runnin’ Bulldogs to their 2028 football schedule, according to an official announcement Friday.
Virginia Tech will host Gardner-Webb at Lane Stadium in Blacksburg, Va., on Saturday, August 26, 2028. The game will be the season-opener and will also mark the first-ever meeting between the two schools on the gridiron.
Gardner-Webb football competes in the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). The Bulldogs, playing their first season under head coach Kris McCullough, lost their season-opener at Austin Peay Thursday night, 35-17.
In other non-conference action in 2028, Virginia Tech will host Liberty on September 2 and Notre Dame on November 4.
Virginia Tech’ ACC opponents in 2028 have not yet been announced, but the Hokies will play four home games and five road contests.
Virginia Tech is the second known non-conference opponent for Gardner-Webb in 2028. The Runnin’ Bulldogs are also scheduled to visit The Citadel on Sept. 2.
