The Virginia Cavaliers have scheduled a 2017-18 home-and-home football series with the Stanford Cardinal, Virginia’s official website indicates.
Virginia will host the series opener at Scott Stadium in Charlottesville on Sept. 9, 2017 while the final game will be played at Stanford Stadium on Sept. 8, 2018. The 2017 game will be the first ever meeting between these two schools.
The Cavaliers were also scheduled to host Connecticut in 2017 in the final game of a 2016-17 home-and-home series. But that game, as well as the 2016 game, have been removed from UVA’s website. There has been no official announcement on the status of that series.
UVA will also have to cancel one non-conference game in 2013 and 2014 due to the ACC moving to a nine-game conference schedule. A likely candidate for cancellation is the 2013-14 series with UTSA. The Roadrunners will also be in need of canceling games since they are joining Conference USA in 2013.
Stanford now has future football games scheduled against two schools from BCS conferences plus Notre Dame. The Cardinal will face Northwestern six times between 2015 and 2022 and will also take on Notre Dame from 2013-19.
The Cardinal will soon add more BCS teams to their future slate due to the Pac-12’s long-term scheduling agreement with the Big Ten.
