The UTEP Miners at Rice Owls football game has been canceled due to COVID-19, both schools announced on Saturday.

The two schools were scheduled to meet at Rice Stadium in Houston, Texas, on Saturday, Nov. 28. The game will not be played due to “…positive tests and contact tracing within the UTEP program.”

The UTEP-Rice football game will likely not be rescheduled this season.

This is the second consecutive and third overall Conference USA game for UTEP that has been canceled. UTEP was scheduled to play FIU on Nov. 7 and UAB on Nov. 20, but both games were called off.

UTEP is 3-4 overall and 0-3 in Conference USA play this season. The Miners’ next scheduled contest is on Friday, Dec. 4 at home at Sun Bowl Stadium in El Paso, Texas, against the Southern Miss Golden Eagles. The game is slated to be streamed by ESPN3 at 8:00pm ET.

Rice (1-2) has only played three games this season. The Owls didn’t compete in their first contest until Oct. 24 and have had three games canceled since that time. They are scheduled to play next on Saturday, Dec. 5 on the road at 21st-ranked Marshall (12:00pm ET, ESPN+).
