UNLV schedules Future Football Series vs. BYU & Central Michigan

The UNLV Rebels have scheduled future home-and-home football series vs. BYU and Central Michigan, the school announced today.

UNLV will travel to face BYU at LaVell Edwards Stadium in Provo on Nov. 15, 2014. The Rebels will then host the Cougars at Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas on Nov. 14, 2015.

BYU and UNLV have met 18 times since 1978, and most of those meetings were conference games when both were members of the WAC or Mountain West. The Cougars lead the overall series 15-3.

“We’re excited to renew our series with BYU and we think those will be two terrific games for our fans,” UNLV Director of Athletics Jim Livengood said. “We are also very pleased to welcome Central Michigan back to our schedule for the first time in nearly two decades in a series that gets our name into the Midwest. I think both of these series help solidify our future schedules in nothing but positive ways.”

“It’s good to have UNLV on our football schedule again,” said BYU director of athletics Tom Holmoe. “We have a very large fan base in Las Vegas who was incredibly supportive of our football team during the five-straight years we played in the Las Vegas Bowl, and all the conference games we played at UNLV. I appreciate our relationship with UNLV and look forward to this series.”

UNLV will host the first game of the series against Central Michigan on Sept. 28, 2013. The second and final game of the series will be hosted by CMU at Kelly/Shorts Stadium in Mount Pleasant on Sept. 17, 2016.

The Rebels lead the series against the Chippewas 2-1. The two teams split a 1993-94 home-and-home series and then UNLV came away victorious in the 1994 Las Vegas Bowl.

Today’s announcement completes the 2013 non-conference schedule for UNLV, which begins with a trip to Minnesota on Thursday, Aug. 29. UNLV then hosts Arizona (Sept. 7), Western Illinois (Sept. 21.), and Central Michigan (Sept. 28). The Rebels were previously slated to play at Utah State on Sept. 28, but Utah State is joining the MWC next season.

UNLV’s 2014 and 2015 schedules both lack one game, but would be completed if Navy had not canceled their 4-game series.
