The UL Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns have added the Grambling State Tigers to their 2018 football schedule, the school announced on Monday.
UL Lafayette will host Grambling State at Cajun Field to open the 2018 season on Sept. 1. The game will be the first-ever meeting on the gridiron between the two Louisiana schools.
Grambling State is a member of the Southwestern Athletic Association (SWAC) in the FCS. The Tigers had a stellar season in 2016, finishing 11-1 overall, 9-0 in SWAC play, and winning the SWAC Championship Game over Alcorn State and the Air Force Reserve Celebration Bowl over NC Central.
The addition of Grambling State gives UL Lafayette four non-conference opponents for the 2018 season. Also visiting Cajun Field in 2018 are the New Mexico State Aggies on either Sept. 8 or Oct. 6.
UL Lafayette will travel to take on two SEC opponents in 2018 — the Alabama Crimson Tide on Sept. 29 and the Mississippi State Bulldogs on Nov. 3.
