The Toledo Rockets and Memphis Tigers have scheduled a home-and-home football series for the 2027 and 2028 seasons, FBSchedules.com has learned. A copy of the contract for games against Memphis was obtained from the University of Toledo via a state open records request.

Toledo will open the series on the road, traveling to face Memphis at Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium in Memphis, Tenn., on Saturday, September 4, 2027. The matchup shifts to Toledo, Ohio, the following year, with the Rockets set to host the Tigers at the Glass Bowl on Saturday, September 2, 2028.

Toledo and Memphis have never squared off on the gridiron in their history.

Toledo was scheduled to face Kentucky during the 2027 and 2028 seasons on the same dates — Sept. 4, 2027 on the road and Sept. 2, 2028 on the road. That series will likely be canceled, however, as Kentucky is overscheduled by one game each of those seasons following the SEC’s move to a nine-game league schedule.

Memphis joins a game at Utah State (Sept. 18) on Toledo’ 2027 football schedule, leaving the Rockets with two openings if the Kentucky series is off. In 2028, Toledo is also scheduled to travel to San Jose State (Sept. 16) and host Appalachian State (Sept. 23).

Memphis’ non-league schedule is now tentatively complete with the addition of games against Toledo. In 2027, the Tigers are set to host Southern Miss (Sept. 18), while visiting Arkansas State (Sept. 11) and Middle Tennessee (Sept. 25).

The 2028 non-conference schedule for Memphis also includes a road game at Arkansas (Sept. 9) and home contests against Mississippi State (Sept. 16) and Arkansas State (Sept. 23).
