TCU and West Virginia officially join the Big 12 Conference today

The TCU Horned Frogs and the West Virginia Mountaineers are official members of the Big 12 Conference today. The Big 12 remains at 10 members after losing Missouri and Texas A&M to the SEC.

Since the Big 12 has only ten teams, the conference is not split into divisions. TCU and West Virginia will play every other member of the Big 12 on a yearly rotating basis.

TCU opens the 2012 season on September 8 at home against Grambling State and their first Big 12 game is September 15 at Kansas. The Horned Frogs also host Kansas State and Oklahoma and travel to Oklahoma State, Texas, and West Virginia.

West Virginia hosts Marshall on September 1 and kicks off Big 12 play on September 29 at home against Baylor. Other top games for the Mountaineers include Kansas State, Oklahoma, and TCU at home and Oklahoma State and Texas on the road.

The Horned Frogs arrive from the Mountain West Conference where they competed since 2005, winning titles in 2005, 2009, 2010, and 2011. TCU was set to join the Big East in 2012, but reneged after receiving an offer from the Big 12.

The Mountaineers leave behind the Big East, a conference they played in since 1991. West Virginia won or shared the Big East championship seven times in their 20 years in the conference.
