The Southeastern Louisiana Lions will play at the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns in 2022, according to Southeastern’s 2020 football media guide.
Southeastern Louisiana will travel to take on Louisiana at Cajun Field in Lafayette, La., on Saturday, Sept. 3, 2022. The game will mark the 40th meeting between the two schools.
Southeastern Louisiana and Louisiana first met on the gridiron in 1931 and compete for the Cypress Mug. In their most recent meeting in 2017, the Ragin’ Cajuns slipped by the Lions 51-48 in Lafayette to extend their lead in the overall series to 19-17-3.
The Lions were previously scheduled to play at the North Alabama Lions on Sept. 3, 2022, which is the second game of a home-and-home series that kicks off at Southeastern Louisiana on Sept. 4, 2021. The 2022 contest will likely move to another date that season.
In Southland Conference action in 2022, Southeastern Louisiana is scheduled to host Houston Baptist, Central Arkansas, McNeese, and Northwestern State and travel to Incarnate Word, Sam Houston State, Stephen F. Austin, and Nicholls.
The addition of Southeastern Louisiana tentatively completes Louisiana’s non-conference football schedule for the 2022 season. The Ragin’ Cajuns are also slated to host Eastern Michigan on Sept. 10 and travel to both Rice on Sept. 17 and Florida State on Nov. 19.
Although the coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has ended Southeastern Louisiana’s fall season, the Ragin’ Cajuns are still scheduled to play. Louisiana is currently scheduled to open their season on Sept. 12 at Iowa State.
