The San Jose State Spartans will play at the Auburn Tigers in 2022, FBSchedules.com has learned.

A copy of the game contract was obtained from San Jose State University via a state public records request.

San Jose State will travel to take on the Auburn Tigers on September 10, 2022. The Tigers will pay the Spartans a $1.85 million guarantee for playing the game, according to the copy of the contract.

San Jose State and Auburn have met twice on the gridiron, and the two contests were played in consecutive seasons in Auburn in 2014 and 2015. The Tigers defeated the Spartans in both contests, 59-13 and 35-21, respectively.

The addition of Auburn tentatively completes San Jose State’s non-conference football schedule for the 2022 season. The Spartans are scheduled to open the season at home at CEFCU Stadium against the Portland State Vikings on Sept. 3.

Other non-conference opponents for San Jose State in 2022 include Western Michigan at home on Sept. 24 and a road trip to face New Mexico State on Nov. 19.

Mountain West opponents for San Jose State in 2022 include Colorado State, Hawaii, Nevada, and UNLV at home and Fresno State, San Diego State, Utah State, and Wyoming on the road.

Auburn is the eighth Power opponent that San Jose State has added to their future schedules. The Spartans will travel to Arkansas (2020), Penn State (2020), Georgia (2021), Ohio State (2023), and USC (2024) and will host California (2023) and Oregon State (2024).

The Auburn Tigers have also tentatively completed their 2022 non-conference schedule. The Tigers are scheduled to open the season with three-consecutive non-conference games at home: Mercer (Sept. 3), San Jose State (Sept. 10), and Penn State (Sept. 17). Auburn also hosts Western Kentucky on Nov. 19, one week before their traditional Iron Bowl contest against the rival Crimson Tide.

In SEC play in 2022, Auburn is scheduled to host Arkansas, LSU, Missouri, and Texas A&M and travel to Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi State, and Ole Miss.
