The San Jose State Spartans will host Portland State in 2016 and Cal Poly in 2017, the San Jose Mercury News has reported.
San Jose State will take on the Portland State Vikings at Spartan Stadium on Sept. 10, 2016. The game will be the first ever meeting between the two schools. Portland State is a member of the Big Sky Conference in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS).
The Spartans will open the 2017 season against the Cal Poly Mustangs on Thursday, Aug. 31. San Jose State and Cal Poly, also a member of the Big Sky Conference, have met a total of 15 times dating back to 1923. SJSU leads the series 11-4.
The addition of Portland State completes San Jose State’s non-conference schedule in 2016. The Spartans open the season at Tulsa (Sept. 3), host Portland State (Sept. 10) and Utah (Sept. 17), and travel to Iowa State (Sept. 24).
San Jose State now has three non-conference games scheduled for the 2017 season with the addition of Cal Poly. SJSU is also slated to visit Utah (Sept. 16) and BYU (Oct. 28).
The Spartans open the 2015 season at home against the New Hampshire Wildcats on Thursday, Sept. 3.
